Chemistplus branded Gel Hand Sanitiser, sold with an unknown model number, a batch/lot designation of CP5L01 and a barcode/EAN of 0745125389592.

These Chemistplus branded Gel Hand Sanitiser products are marketed and sold as alcohol-based cleaning products suitable for sanitizing hands from certain microbial threats when soap and water are not available. The products are sold with an identifying label that states the Sanitiser Gel “KILLS 99.9% OF GERMS”.

No item numbers, best-before date codes, model numbers, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

The type of hazards presented in these recalled Chemistplus branded Gel Hand Sanitiser products include the reported finding that the Gel products contain less active Alcohol than specified on the label. Specifically, the Gel Hand Sanitiser claims 80% Alcohol by weight when, in fact, EU testing has found the measured Alcohol value to be as low as 22% by weight.

As a direct consequence of this reported defect, the Chemistplus branded Gel Hand Sanitiser products lack sufficient disinfectant properties and consequently, increase the risk of infection for people who utilize the product in a reasonable manner expected with its intended use. Due to this result, Gel Hand Sanitiser products do not comply with the European Union’s Biocidal Products Regulation.

Consequently, a recall of these recalled Chemistplus branded Gel Hand Sanitiser products as well as a withdrawal of the products from the European marketplace has been ordered.
