US NHTSA Recalls: Leather on Wheels WCL Helmets

Among the eighty (80) recalls the NHTSA has announced this month comes news of the following:

Leather on Wheels, a Delta, British Columbia establishment has recalled an estimated 4,896 model year Leather on Wheels WCL Motorcycle Helmets, model Polo, part number 666, in all sizes produced 9/1/14 through 3/16/20 and marketed, sold and delivered in the United States.

Recall Category: Equipment – Helmet may not protect from impact in apparent contravention of US FMVSS 218

NHTSA Safety Notification 20E082000 reports the recalled Helmets may not adequately reduce the amount of force the wearer experiences during an impact. As such, these Helmet fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard FMVSS 218, “Motorcycle Helmets”.

According to the NHTSA, in the event of a crash or other impact event, the Helmet may not protect the wearer, increasing the risk of serious injury and/or life-changing results.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat lacerations, concussions, bone fractures, amputation, central nervous system (“CNS”) damage and/or internal injuries.

Under 49 United States Code § 30112(a), it is illegal for anyone, including a manufacturer, distributor, dealer or retailer to sell an item of equipment or vehicle that fails to comply with all applicable Federal motor vehicle safety standards.

What should you do?
Leather On Wheels will registered notify owners, and dealers will provide a credit or replace the Helmet, free of charge. The recall was expected to begin November 20, 2020. Owners may contact Leather On Wheels Customer Service at 1-587-583-0070 during normal business hours, Monday to Friday, Mountain Standard Time (“MST”). No manufacturer’s designation was listed for this recall at press time.
