Among the seventy-six (76) recalls the NHTSA has announced this month comes news of the following:

Logo - Ford Motor CompanyFord Motor Company (“Ford”), a Dearborn, Michigan establishment, has recalled an estimated 2,903 model year 2019-2020 Ford Transit Connect Vans equipped with 2.5L engines marketed, sold and delivered in the United States.

Recall Category: Engine, Engine Cooling & Power Train – Engine may overheat

NHTSA Safety Notification 20V636000 reports the Powertrain Control Module (“PCM”) Software has fail-safe temperature threshold values higher than intended for the vehicle’s Engine. This defect may delay the fail-safe cooling mechanism in the event of coolant loss and result in the Engine overheating.

According to the NHTSA, if the Engine overheats, it can result in Engine damage and increase the risk of a vehicle fire.

Under 49 United States Code § 30112(a), it is illegal for anyone, including a manufacturer, distributor, dealer or retailer to sell an item of equipment or vehicle that fails to comply with all applicable Federal motor vehicle safety standards.

What should you do?
Ford will notify registered owners, and dealers will update the Powertrain Control Module software, free of charge. The recall began November 10, 2020. Owners may contact Ford Customer Service toll-free at 1-866-436-7332 during normal business hours, Monday to Friday, Eastern Standard Time (“EST”). Ford’s designation for this recall is 20S60.
