US NHTSA Recalls: Hyundai Veracruz Vehicles

Among the sixty-two (62) recalls the NHTSA has announced this month comes news of the following:

Logo - Hyundai Motor AmericaHyundai Motor America (“Hyundai”), a Fountain Valley, California establishment and a subsidiary of Hyundai Motors of Seoul, South Korea, has recalled an estimated 60,097 model year 2007-2012 Hyundai Veracruz Crossover SUVs that were previously recalled under recall number 14V-415 and marketed, sold and delivered in the United States.

Recall Category: Engine And Engine Cooling – Charging System failure caused by oil leak

NHTSA Safety Notification 20V705000 reports oil may leak from the Front Cylinder Bank Cover Gasket, potentially dripping onto the vehicle’s Alternator and causing the charging system to become inoperative.

According to the NHTSA, an inoperative charging system can result in an engine stall, increasing the risk of a motor vehicle collision (“MVC”) or other impact event with consequential injury and/or life-changing results.

Under 49 United States Code § 30112(a), it is illegal for anyone, including a manufacturer, distributor, dealer or retailer to sell an item of equipment or vehicle that fails to comply with all applicable Federal motor vehicle safety standards.

What should you do?
Hyundai will notify registered owners, and dealers will inspect the valve cover gasket and repair it as necessary, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin January 8, 2021. Owners may contact Hyundai Customer Service toll-free at 1-855-371-9460 during normal business hours, Monday to Friday, Pacific Standard Time (“PST”). Hyundai’s designation for this recall is 197.
