US FlagUS/Silver Spring: Dole Fresh Vegetables, Inc., a Monterey, California establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of Dole Organic branded Romaine Hearts and Wild Harvest branded Organic Romaine Hearts from the American marketplace due to suspected Listeria monocytogenes 0157:H7 contamination and consequential risks of Gram-positive bacterial infection, severe illness and/or possible life-changing complications, all serious health hazards.

Additional information:
The US Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) reports the following Romaine Lettuce products are subject to this recall:

  • Dole Organic branded Romaine Hearts, 3-pack, sold in plastic cello bags with combined English/French packaging, with harvested-on dates of 10-23-20 and 10-26-20 and a UPC of 0-71430-90061-1
  • Wild Harvest branded Organic Romaine Hearts, sold in plastic cello bags with harvested-on dates of 10-23-20 and 10-26-20 and a UPC of 7-11535-50201-2

Please consult the photograph above for details of the food’s packaging, design and retail presentation.

==> No item numbers, best-before date codes, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the FDA, this recall was initiated after Dole branded Organic Romaine Hearts – 3pk products yielded a positive result for pathogenic non-O157 E.coli STEC in a routine sample collected at a retail store by the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development. Consequently, you should neither serve nor consume the recalled Romaine Lettuce products identified above.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Romaine Lettuce products, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, please return the Salads to the store where you purchased them a full refund.

Please note: while these Salad products may be past their use-by dates, they may be in your freezers or storage chillers. If you have purchased any of these Romaine Lettuce products in the time period ranging from September 15, 2020 to November 1, 2020, please check your refrigerators, chillers and/or freezers to ensure these specific food products have not been stored for future consumption. If found, these products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase for refund.

According to the FDA, this recall was initiated after testing results of a random sample collected and analyzed by the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development. The recalled heads of Romaine Lettuce were known to be distributed in the United States to the following states: AZ, HI, IA, IL, IN, KS, MD, MI, MN, MO, MS, MT, NC, ND and VA.
