US NHTSA Recalls: Ford Explorer Vehicles

Among the thirty-two (32) recalls the NHTSA has announced this month comes news of the following:

Logo - Ford Motor CompanyFord Motor Company (“Ford”), a Dearborn, Michigan establishment, has recalled an estimated 318,381 model year 2013-2017 Explorer vehicles originally sold, or currently registered in Connecticut, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wisconsin that were previously repaired under a prior recall numbers 16V-245 or 19V-435.

Recall Category: Suspension – Rear Suspension Toe Link fracture

NHTSA Safety Notification 20V675000 reports the outboard section of a Rear Suspension Toe Link may fracture.

According to the NHTSA, a Rear Toe Link fracture can result in a loss of steering control, increasing the risk of a crash, MVA or other impact event with consequential injury and/or life-changing results.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat lacerations, amputation, concussions, bone fractures and/or internal injuries.

Ford will notify registered owners, and dealers will inspect the Cross-Axis Ball Joint (“CABJ”) Knuckle attached to the Rear Suspension Toe Link and replace it as necessary, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin November 30, 2020.

Owners may contact Ford Customer Service toll-free at 1-866-436-7332 during normal business hours, Monday to Friday, Eastern Standard Time (“EST”). Ford’s designation for this recall is 20S62.
