US FlagCanada FlagUS/Washington & Canada/Ottawa: Ring LLC, a Santa Monica, California establishment and subsidiary of Seattle, Washington-based Amazon.com recalls an estimated total 358,700 Ring branded Video Doorbells (approximately 350,000 in the US and 8,700 in Canada) from the American and Canadian marketplaces due to overheating battery and consequential risks of fire, burns, smoke inhalation and/or property damage, all serious safety hazards.

Additional information:
The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (“CPSC”) reports this recall involves Ring branded Video Doorbell products (2nd Generation), model number 5UM5E5 smart doorbell cameras.

  • The recalled Video Doorbells have a blue ring at the front and come in two colors: Satin Nickel (i.e., black and silver) and Venetian Bronze (i.e., black and bronze). They were sold with a mounting bracket and a USB charging cable. The two-way Audio Doorbell can be hardwired or battery-powered and supports night vision. The Ring logo is printed on the bottom front of the Doorbell and the model and S/N are on a label on the back of the Doorbell and the outer packaging.

==> No barcodes, UPCs, NDCs, DINs, item numbers, best-before date codes, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the CPSC, the battery in the recalled Video Doorbell’s can overheat when the incorrect screws are used for installation, posing fire and burn hazards. In the US, Ring has received eighty-five (85) incident reports of incorrect Doorbell screws installed with twenty-three (23) of those Doorbells igniting, resulting in minor property damage. The firm has received eight (8) reports of minor burns. In Canada, Ring has received one (1) reported incident in Canada with no reports of injury as of the date of this recall notification.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Ring branded Video Doorbell products, please do not use them. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.
