US NHTSA Recalls: Volvo S60 & S80 Vehicles

Among the twenty-six (26) recalls the NHTSA has announced this month comes news of the following:

Logo - Volvo Car USA LLCVolvo Car USA LLC (“Volvo”), a Rockleigh, New Jersey establishment and a division of the Volvo Group of Gothenburg, Sweden and a subsidiary of the Chinese automotive concern Geely Automotive, has recalled an estimated 54,124 model year 2001-2003 S60 and S80 vehicles marketed, sold, delivered or ever registered in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Puerto Rico, American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands (“Saipan”) and the US Virgin Islands (USVI).

Recall Category: Air Bags – Air Bag Inflator fragments may strike driver

NHTSA Safety Notification 20V681000 reports the Driver Side Frontal Air Bag Inflator may rupture, sending metal fragments into the passenger compartment, when the Driver Side Air Bag is deployed as a result of a crash, MVA or other impact event.

According to the NHTSA, metal fragments can strike vehicle occupants, increasing the risk of serious injury or death.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat lacerations, eye injury, concussions, bone fractures and/or internal injuries.

Volvo Car will notify send an interim notice to registered owners beginning January 4, 2021. A second notice will be sent to owners when parts become available during the first quarter of 2021. Dealers will replace the Driver Side Air Bag Module, free of charge.

Owners may contact Volvo Car Customer Service toll-free at 1-866-870-2046 during normal business hours, Monday to Friday, Eastern Standard Time (“EST”). Volvo Car’s designation for this recall is R10058.
