US FlagUS/Washington: Porter World Trade Inc., a Cape Canaveral, Florida establishment, recalls an estimated 9,700 Ron Jon Surf Shop Sippy Cups from the American marketplace due to suspected violations of the US Federal Lead regulations as well as the US ban on Phthalates with consequential risks of poisoning, developmental impairment and reproductive damage, all serious health hazards.

Additional information:
The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (“CPSC”) reports this recall involves certain 13.5-ounce Ron Jon Surf Sippy Cups marketed and sold for children.

  • The main body of the Sippy Cups is colored orange, blue, pink or green and there is a rubber-like grip material around the cup to help the child grasp and manipulate the device. The rubber-like material has images of turtle, crab, fish, boat and sea grass and the phrase, “RON JON SURF SHOP” printed on it while a partial UPC of 1082-0405 can be found printed on the bottom of each Sippy Cup.

==> No item numbers, best-before date codes, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the CPSC, the plastic characters on the recalled Sippy Cups contain levels of Lead that exceed the federal Lead content ban and contain levels of a regulated Phthalate that exceed the levels of specific Phthalates allowed under Federal safety regulations.

Lead and banned Phthalates are toxic if ingested, particularly if ingested by young infants and children, and can cause serious and life-changing health issues, including reproductive damage and intellectual impairment when utilizing the product in a reasonable manner expected with its intended use.
