US NHTSA Recalls: Mercedes-Benz GLCxx Vehicles

Among the seventy (70) recalls the NHTSA announced this past month came news of the following:

Logo - Mercedes-Benz USA, LLCMercedes-Benz USA, LLC (“MBUSA”), a Sandy Springs, Georgia establishment and subsidiary of Daimler AG of of Stuttgart, Germany, has recalled an estimated 2,535 model year 2020 GLC300, GLC350e, GLC43 AMG, and GLC63 AMG vehicles marketed, sold and delivered in the United States.

Recall Category: Steering – Damaged Power Steering Control Unit Wiring Harness

NHTSA Safety Notification 20V651000 reports the Power Steering Control Unit Wiring Harness may have been damaged during the production process, possibly resulting in a loss of Power Steering Assist or an electrical short-circuit.

According to the NHTSA, a loss of Power Steering assist can increase the risk of a crash. Additionally, If the Wiring Harness short-circuits, there is an increased risk of a fire.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat burns, smoke inhalation, lacerations, amputation, concussions, bone fractures and/or internal injuries.

Mercedes-Benz USA will notify registered owners, and dealers will inspect the wiring harness, and replace it if necessary, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin December 22, 2020. Owners may contact MBUSA Customer Service toll-free at 1-800-367-6372. No manufacturer’s designation was listed for this recall at press time.
