Mueller Austria Onion Chopper Pro Recall [US]

US FlagUS/Washington: Mueller Austria, an Oakland, California establishment, recalls an estimated 106,000 Mueller Austria Onion Chopper Pro Appliances from the American marketplace due to suspected component detachment and consequential risks of laceration and finger amputation, all serious safety hazards.

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (“CPSC”) reports this recall involves models of the Mueller Austria Onion Chopper Pro Appliances, model number M-700.

  • The gray and green Choppers come with two stainless steel discs, a 4-cup clear container and a cleaning brush. Only Onion Chopper appliances that have a locking tab that can be pushed towards the blades in order to properly lock into place are included in this recall. The Mueller Austria logo can be printed on the side of the Onion Chopper. The model number is located on the product itself or on the chopper’s packaging.

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers, best-before date codes, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the CPSC, the Appliance’s locking tab can detach from the rest of the unit during use. Of this defect occurs, it can cause hands and fingers to slide into the blades when utilizing the product in a reasonable manner expected with its intended use.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Onion Chopper products, please do not use them. Instead, kindly contact Mueller Austria for a free replacement model with a newly-designed locking tab. Mueller Austria has received 266 incidents of the locking tab breaking, resulting in 137 laceration injuries to the hands and fingers.
