US FlagCanada FlagUS/Washington & Canada/Ottawa: CB2, a Northbrook, Illinois establishment recalls an estimated total 407 Trace branded Bookcases (approximately 400 in the US and approximately 7 in Canada) from the American and Canadian marketplaces due to suspected structural failure and collapse with consequential risks of laceration, concussion and bone fracture, all serious safety hazards.

Additional information:
The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (“CPSC”) reports this recall involves certain Trace branded Bookcases, as follows:

  • Trace Brass Bookcases, sold with a SKU of 338-925, four (4) shelves and measures approximately sixty 62 inches tall by thirty-four (34) inches wide
  • Trace Black Bookcases, sold with a SKU of 603-232, four (4) shelves and measures approximately sixty 62 inches tall by thirty-four (34) inches wide

Each of the recalled Bookcase has a brushed oak veneer or black frame with two wire mesh doors and four shelves. The brands, “Trace” and “CB2” as well as the SKU number are printed on a label on the back of each Bookcases.

Please consult the photograph above for details of the product’s design and retail presentation. One (1) additional image of the recalled Trace branded Bookcases can be found on the Web site above.

==> No barcodes, UPCs, NDCs, DINs, item numbers, best-before date codes, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the CPSC, the recalled Trace Brass Bookcases and Trace Black Bookcases can collapse when fully loaded, posing an injury hazard to people who utilize the products in a reasonable manner expected with its intended use. As of the date of this recall notification, CB2 has received eleven (11) reports of the Bookcases collapsing when loaded. No injuries have been reported.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Trace Brass Bookcases and/or the Trace Black Bookcases, please do not use them. Instead, kindly CB2 for instructions on how to receive a free replacement bookcase or a full refund.

Please note: this is a joint recall from the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (“CPSC”) and Health Canada (“HCSC”).
