US NHTSA Recalls: Mercedes-Benz GLE & GLS Vehicles

Among the forty-six (46) recalls the NHTSA has announced this month comes news of the following:

Logo - Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC.Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC. (“MBUSA”), a Sandy Springs, Georgia establishment and subsidiary of Daimler AG of of Stuttgart, Germany, has recalled an estimated 12,799 model year 2020 GLE 350, GLE 450, GLE 580, GLS 450, GLS 580 vehicles equipped with an optional illuminated Mercedes-Benz star logo in the front grill marketed, sold and delivered in the United States

Recall Category: Electrical System, Exterior Lighting, Visibility, Steering – Incorrectly installed Electrical Ground

NHTSA Safety Notification 20V626000 reports the Mercedes-Benz Star logo’s Electrical Ground Connection may not be installed properly, potentially affecting the function of other components that share the same Ground Connection, such as the Power Steering Control Unit, Wiper Motor, and/or the left Headlight.

According to the NHTSA, if the Power Steering, Wiper Motor, or left Headlight malfunction there could be an increased risk of a crash, MVA or other impact event with consequential injury and/or life-changing results.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat lacerations, concussions and/or bone fractures.

Mercedes-Benz USA will notify registered owners, and dealers will relocate the Electrical Ground Connection, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin December 8, 2020. Owners may contact MBUSA Customer Service toll-free at 1-800-367-6372 during normal business hours, Monday to Friday, Eastern Standard Time (“EST”).
