US NHTSA Recalls: Yamaha XMAX Scooters

Among the forty-two (42) recalls the NHTSA has announced this month comes news of the following:

Logo - Yamaha Motor Corporation USAYamaha Motor Corporation USA (“Yamaha”), a Cypress, California establishment and subsidiary of Yamaha Motor Company Limited of Iwata, Shizuoka, Japan, has recalled an estimated 31,000 model year 2015-2020 YZF-R3, 2020 MT03 and 2018-2020 Yamaha XMAX Scooters marketed, sold and delivered in the United States.

Recall Category: Visibility – Decreased reflective functionality of Rear Reflector Lens

NHTSA Safety Notification 20V611000 reports condensation or other contaminates may adhere to the Rear Reflector Lens reducing its effectiveness.

According to the NHTSA, a less reflective Rear Reflector increases the risk of crash, MVA or other impact event with consequential injury and/or life-changing results.

Yamaha will notify registered owners, and dealers will replace the Rear Reflector Lens, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin in October 2020. Owners may contact Yamaha Customer Service toll-free at 1-888-266-3085 during normal business hours, Monday to Friday, Pacific Standard Time (“PST”). Yamaha’s designation for this recall is 990139.
