US NHTSA Recalls: BMW & Mini Cooper Vehicles

Among the thirty-eight (38) recalls the NHTSA has announced this month comes news of the following:

Logo - BMW of North America, LLCBMW of North America, LLC (“BMW”), a Greer, South Carolina establishment and a subsidiary of Bayerische Motoren Werke AG of Munich, Germany, has recalled an estimated 4,509 model year 2020-2021 530e, 530e xDrive, 530e iPerformance and X3 xDrive30e and MINI Cooper Countryman All4 SE, 2020 BMW i8, and 2021 330e, 330e xDrive, 745Le xDrive and X5 xDrive45e vehicles marketed, sold and delivered in the United States.

Recall Category: Electrical System – Debris in Hybrid Battery may cause fire

NHTSA Safety Notification 20V601000 reports debris may have entered one or more of the Hybrid Battery Cells during their production.

According to the NHTSA, the debris could result in a short-circuit, increasing the risk of fire or injury.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat lacerations, concussions and/or bone fractures.

Logo - MiniThe remedy is currently being developed. Until the remedy is available, drivers will be instructed to not charge their vehicles. Drivers will also be instructed to not drive in manual mode, sport mode, and to not use the shift paddles. The recall is expected to begin November 23, 2020.

Owners may contact BMW Customer Service toll-free at 1-800-525-7417 during normal business hours, Monday to Friday, Eastern Standard Time (“EST”). No manufacturer’s designation was listed for this recall at press time.
