Logo - Forest River, Inc.Forest River, Inc. (“Forest River”), an Elkhart, Indiana establishment and subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway of Omaha, Nebraska, recalled an estimated 4,397 model year 2018-2021 Wildwood, Salem, and 2020 Sonoma Travel Trailers marketed, sold and delivered in the United States.

Recall Category: Trailer Hitches, Electrical System – Breakaway Switch wired incorrectly

NHTSA Safety Notification 20V563000 reports the Break-Away Safety Switch may not be wired to constant power, which can cause the trailer brakes to not activate in the event of a trailer separation from the tow vehicle.

According to the NHTSA, if the brakes of the trailer do not engage, it can result in a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash.

Forest River will notify registered owners, and dealers will rewire the Break-Away Safety Switch, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a schedule for recall notification. Owners may contact Forest River Customer Service toll-free at 1-909-873-3777 during normal business hours, Monday to Friday, Eastern Standard Time (“EST”). Forest River’s designation for this recall is 67A-1230.
