Provigo branded Ground Beef Recall [Canada]

Canada/Ottawa: JBS Food Canada, a Calgary, Alberta establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of Provigo branded Ground Beef products from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected Escherichia Coli (E. Coli) O157 contamination and consequential risks of Gram-negative bacterial infection, illness and/or possible life-changing complications, all serious health hazards.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (“CFIA”) reports the following Ground Beef products are subject to this recall:

  • Provigo branded Medium Ground Beef Club Packs, sold in variable weight packages; affected batch/lots: all packages bearing best-before date codes of 16.SE2020, 17.SE2020 or 18.SE2020 with a UPC that starts with 0 213026
  • Provigo branded Lean Ground Beef Fresh Club Packs, sold in variable weight packages; affected batch/lots: all packages bearing best-before date codes of 16.SE2020, 17.SE2020 or 18.SE2020 with a UPC that starts with 0 217334

Please consult the photograph above for details of the food’s packaging, design and retail presentation. One (1) additional image of the recalled Ground Beef products can be found on the Web site above.

==> No item numbers, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the CFIA, JBS Food Canada has recalls certain batch/lots of Provigo branded Ground Beef products from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected Escherichia Coli (E. Coli) O157 contamination. You should neither serve nor consume the recalled Ground Beef products identified above.

Please note: while these Ground Beef products may be close to or past their use-by dates, they may be in your freezers or storage chillers. If you have purchased these products since August 1, 2020, please check your refrigerators, chillers and/or freezers to ensure these food products have not been stored for future consumption. If found, these products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase for refund.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Ground Beef products, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat Escherichia Coli (E. Coli) O157 bacterial poisoning.
