US FlagUS/Silver Spring: Wismettac Asian Foods, Inc., a Santa Fe Springs, California establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of Shirakiku branded Imported Dried Fungus, also known as Black Fungus or Kikurage, from the American marketplace due to suspected Salmonella contamination and consequential risks of Gram-negative bacterial infection, severe illness and/or possible life-changing complications, all serious health hazards.

Additional information:
The US Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) reports the following Dried Fungus products are subject to this recall:

  • Shirakiku Imported Dried Fungus, also known as Black Fungus or Kikurage, sold in 2.27 kilogram  (five (5) pound) clear plastic packages; affected batch/lots: all batch/lots with an item number of 60403 and a UPC of 00074410604035

==> No barcodes, UPCs, DINs, item numbers, best-before date codes, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the FDA, Wismettac has initiated this recall after the California Department of Public Health discovered the presence of Salmonella in the Shirakiku Imported Dried Fungus. You should neither serve nor consume the recalled Fungus products identified above.

The Shirakiku Imported Dried Fungus product was known to have been distributed to restaurants in Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Washington DC, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin and the Canadian province of British Columbia.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Shirakiku Imported Dried Fungus, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the Dried Fungus products to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat bacterial poisonings such as Salmonelosis.
