US FlagUS/Washington: CO2 Exchange LLC, doing business as Soda Sense, a Green Bay, Wisconsin establishment, recalls an estimated 19,200 Soda Sense branded Carbon Dioxide (“CO2”) Canisters from the American marketplace due to suspected valve failure and possible gas explosion and consequential risks of laceration, eye damage, concussion, bone fracture and property damage, all serious safety hazards.

Additional information:
The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (“CPSC”) reports this recall involves certain Type 2 Soda Sense branded Carbon Dioxide (“CO2”) Canisters sold through the Soda Sense mail order exchange program, as follows:

  • The 0.6 liter metal, cylinder Canisters are silver with a black cap and are printed with the Soda Sense logo on the front of each Canister. Only Cylinders with two (2) indented rings on the bottom are currently subject to this recall.

Please consult the photograph above for details of the product’s packaging, design and retail presentation. One (1) additional image of the recalled Canisters can be found on the Web site listed above.

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers, best-before date codes, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the CPSC, a valve in the recalled Canisters can break, allowing Carbon Dioxide (“CO2”) to suddenly and forcefully eject the top valve, posing an injury hazard to those who utilize the product in a reasonable manner expected with its intended use.

Soda Sense has received eighteen (18) reports of the Canister’s top valve ejecting, resulting in minor property damage, such as damage to the home soda machine if the Canister was in the machine when the valve broke, or when the valve in the Canister broke, damage to surrounding property including glasses, plates or other fragile items. As of the date of this recall, no personal injuries had been reported.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Soda Sense branded Carbon Dioxide (“CO2”) Canisters, please do not use them. Instead, kindly Soda Sense to receive a free replacement Canister, including shipping. The company is also contacting all known (i.e., registered) purchasers directly.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat laceration, eye damage, concussion, bone fracture.
