US NHTSA Recalls: Hyundai Tucson Vehicles

Among the thirty-six (36) recalls the NHTSA announced this month comes news of the following:

Logo - Hyundai Motor AmericaHyundai Motor America (“Hyundai”), a Fountain Valley, California establishment and a subsidiary of Hyundai Motors of Seoul, South Korea, has recalled an estimated 180,000 model year 2019-2021 Tucson vehicles marketed, sold and delivered in the United States.

Recall Category: Service Brakes, Hydraulic – ABS Unit may cause Engine Compartment fire

NHTSA Safety Notification 20V543000 reports the Anti-lock Brake (“ABS”) Hydraulic Electronic Control Unit (“HECU”) could corrode internally and cause an electrical short, possibly resulting in an engine compartment fire.

According to the NHTSA, an engine compartment fire can increase the risk of injury or crash, MVA or other impact event with consequential injury and/or life-changing results.

Hyundai will notify registered owners, and dealers will replace the HECU, free of charge. Owners are advised to park outside and away from structures as a precaution until the recall repair is complete. The recall is expected to begin October 30, 2020. Owners may contact Hyundai Customer Service toll-free at 1-855-371-9460 during normal business hours, Monday to Friday, Pacific Standard Time (“PST”). Hyundai’s designation for this recall is 195.
