US FlagUS/Washington: Medique, a Fort Myers, Florida establishment, recalls an estimated 143,300 Medi-First, Medi-First Plus, Medique, Dover, Otis Clapp and Ecolab branded medications and/or health products from the American marketplace due to suspected failure to meet US child resistant closure requirements under the US Poison Prevention Packaging Act and consequential risks of child poisoning, ingestion and GI tract laceration damage, all serious health and safety hazards.

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (“CPSC”) reports the recall involves 31 different over-the-counter drugs purchased on or after June 1, 2018 that are unexpired from the following brands: Medi-First, Medi-First Plus, Medique, Dover, Otis Clapp and Ecolab, as follows (in alphabetical order):

The recalled medications and health products reportedly contain Aspirin, Acetaminophen, Ibuprofen, Lidocaine, Diphenhydramine, Loperamide, and Naproxen. The expiration date for tablets and creams can be found on either the top or side panels of the container carton in the format [YEAR/MO].

The 31 different recalled products include the following:

  • Dover Addaprin, sold with an active ingredient of Ibuprofen (200 mg) in two (2)-tablet packets with 250 packets per box
  • Dover Aminofen, sold with an active ingredient of Acetaminophen (325 mg) in two (2)-tablet packets with 250 packets per box
  • Ecolab Burn Cream, sold with an active ingredient of Lidocaine (0.9 grams) in packets of 25
  • Medi-First Aspirin, sold with an active ingredient of Aspirin (325 mg) in two (2)-tablet packets with 50, 125 or 250 packets per box
  • Medi-First Blood Clotting Spray, sold with an active ingredient of Lidocaine (4%) in three (3)-ounce bottles
  • Medi-First Burn Cream with Lidocaine, sold with an active ingredient of Lidocaine (0.9 grams) in packets of 25
  • Medi-First Burn Spray, sold with an active ingredient of Lidocaine HCl (2%) in two (2)-ounce bottles
  • Medi-First Cold Relief, sold with an active ingredient of Acetaminophen (325 mg) in two (2)-tablet packets with 50, 125 or 250 packets per box
  • Medi-First Extra Strength Non-Aspirin Acetaminophen, sold with an active ingredient of Acetaminophen (500 mg) in two (2)-tablet packets with 50, 125 or 250 packets per box
  • Medi-First Ibuprofen, sold with an active ingredient of Ibuprofen (200 mg) in two (2)-tablet packets with 4, 50 or 250 packets per box
  • Medi-First Non-Aspirin Acetaminophen, sold with an active ingredient of Acetaminophen (325 mg) in two (2)-tablet packets with 50 or 250 packets per box
  • Medi-First Pain Relief Extra Strength, sold with an active ingredient of Acetaminophen (110 mg) and Aspirin (162 mg) in two (2)-tablet packets with 50, 100 or 250 packets per box
  • Medi-First Plus Aspirin, sold with an active ingredient of Aspirin (325 mg) in two (2)-tablet packets with 50 or 250 packets per box
  • Medi-First Plus Pain Zappers, sold with an active ingredient of Acetaminophen (250 mg) and Aspirin (250 mg) in two (2)-tablet packets with 50 or 250 packets per box
  • Medi-First Sinus Pain & Pressure, sold with an active ingredient of Acetaminophen (500 mg) in two (2)-tablet packets with 50, 125 or 250 packets per box
  • Medique APAP, sold with an active ingredient of Acetaminophen (325 mg) in two (2)-tablet packets with 250 packets per box
  • Medique Aspirin, sold with an active ingredient of Aspirin (325 mg) in two (2)-tablet packets with 12, 100 or 250 packets per box
  • Medique Back Pain-Off, sold with an active ingredient of Acetaminophen (250 mg) in two (2)-tablet packets with 50, 125 or 250 packets per box
  • Medique CCP Caffeine Fee, sold with an active ingredient of Acetaminophen (325 mg) in two (2)-tablet packets with 50 or 250 packets per box
  • Medique Cramp Tabs, sold with an active ingredient of Acetaminophen (325 mg) in two (2)-tablet packets with 50, 125 or 250 packets per box
  • Medique Decorel Forte Plus, sold with an active ingredient of Acetaminophen (325 mg) in two (2)-tablet packets with 50 or 250 packets per box
  • Medique Diamode, sold with an active ingredient of Loperamide HCl (2 mg) in one (1)-tablet packets with 6, 50 or 100 packets per box
  • Medique Diphen, sold with an active ingredient of Diphenhydramine (25 mg) in 1 tablet packets with 24 or 200 packets per box
  • Medique Extra Strength APAP, sold with an active ingredient of Acetaminophen (500 mg) in two (2)-tablet packets with 50, 125 or 250 packets per box
  • Medique I-Prin, sold with an active ingredient of Ibuprofen (200 mg) in two (2)-tablet packets with 3, 100 or 250 packets per box
  • Medique Medicidin-D, sold with an active ingredient of Acetaminophen (325 mg) in two (2)-tablet packets with 50, 100 or 250 packets per box
  • Medique Mediproxen, sold with an active ingredient of Naproxen Sodium (220 mg) in one (1)-tablet packets with 50 or 100 packets per box
  • Medique Pain-Off, sold with an active ingredient of Acetaminophen (250 mg) and Aspirin (250 mg) in two (2)-tablet packets with 50 or 250 packets per box
  • Otis Clapp Back Quell, sold with an active ingredient of Acetaminophen (200 mg) in two (2)-tablet packets with 150 packets per box
  • Otis Clapp Mygrex, sold with an active ingredient of Acetaminophen (500 mg) in two (2)-tablet packets with 150 packets per box
  • Otis Clapp Valihist, sold with an active ingredient of Acetaminophen (325 mg) in two (2)-tablet packets with 50 or 250 packets per box

==> No barcodes, UPCs, DINs, item numbers, best-before date codes, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the CPSC, this recall was initiated because the products contain the active ingredients Aspirin, Acetaminophen, Ibuprofen, Lidocaine, Diphenhydramine, Loperamide and/or Naproxen, all substances that must be sold and stored in child resistant packaging as required by the US Poison Prevention Packaging Act (“PPPA”). The packaging of the recalled Medi-First, Medi-First Plus, Medique, Dover, Otis Clapp and Ecolab branded medications and/or health products are reportedly not child resistant and consequently, pose a poisoning risk if the contents are swallowed or otherwise absorbed by young children.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Medi-First, Medi-First Plus, Medique, Dover, Otis Clapp and Ecolab branded medications and/or health products, please do not use them. Instead, immediately store the product in a safe location out of the reach of children and contact Medique for a full refund.
