US FlagUS/Silver Spring: Nanomateriales, SA de CV, a Monterrey, Mexico establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of Zanilast+ Gel branded Hand Sanitizer Gel from the American marketplace due to suspected 1-Propanol contamination and consequential risks of GI tract burns, central nervous system depression, permanent CNS impairment and/or death, all serious health and safety hazards.

Additional information:
The US Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) reports the following Hand Sanitizer Gel products are subject to this recall:

  • Zanilast+ Gel branded Sanitizer Gel, sold in one (1) liter jugs with a NDC of 69912-008-01 and a UPC of 2 000000 531151
  • Zanilast+ Gel branded Sanitizer Gel, sold in one (1) gallon jugs with a NDC of 69912-008-02 and a UPC of 2 000000 531144
  • Zanilast+ Gel branded Sanitizer Gel, sold in one 25 kilogram containers with a NDC of 69912-006-01

==> No item numbers, best-before date codes, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the FDA, these products are marketed and sold as sanitizer gels, for hand washing to decrease bacteria on the skin, are packaged in 1 liter, 25 kg, and 1 gallon plastic bottles and known to have been distributed from 05/29/2020 to 06/17/2020 in the US states of California, New Jersey and New York.

Due to reported 1-Propanol contamination, acute toxicity from ingestion can occur with this product. In turn, toxicity of this nature can cause GI tract burns, central nervous system depression, permanent CNS impairment and/or death and require medical or surgical intervention to mitigate the damage.

People most at risk include those with alcohol addiction and adolescents, both of whom have been known to ingest Ethanol-based antiseptic rubs intentionally to become intoxicated, as well as infants and children who may unintentionally ingest the hazardous Sanitizer Gel products. Consequently, you should neither serve nor use the recalled Sanitizer Gel products identified above.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm Hand Sanitizer Gel poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any product, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect product.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat 1-Propanol contamination, GI tract burns, central nervous system depression and/or permanent CNS impairment.
