Logo - Motorcar Parts of America Motorcar Parts of America, Inc. (“MPA”), a Torrance, California establishment has recalled an estimated 2,403 model year Duralast NM4222 and NM55381 Brake Master Cylinders sold as aftermarket replacement parts for 2012-2017 Volkswagen Beetle, 2005-2018 Volkswagen Jetta and 2007-2010 Volkswagen Jetta GLI vehicles marketed, sold and delivered in the United States.

Recall Category: Service Brakes, Hydraulic – Insufficiently crimped Brake Master Cylinder

NHTSA Safety Notification 20E057000 reports the crimping of the aluminum housing may be insufficient, allowing the Master Cylinder Piston to pop out of the housing.

According to the NHTSA, if the piston pops out of the Master Cylinder Housing, a complete loss of braking or unintended brake application can occur, increasing the risk of a crash, MVA or other impact event with consequential injury and/or life-changing results. Please nite: drivers may initially notice Brake Fluid leaking onto the vacuum booster, or a change in Brake Pedal travel and feel.

MPA will notify registered owners directing them to take the component to an AutoZone store to return the recalled Master Cylinder for a full refund. Exchanges for replacement Master Cylinders can occur after October 1, 2020. The manufacturer has not yet provided a schedule for recall notification.

Owners may contact MPA Customer Service toll-free at 1-833-758-0239 during normal business hours, Monday to Friday, Pacific Standard Time (“PST”) or by e-mail at recall@motorcarparts.com.
