Australia FlagAustralia/Canberra: Hot Topic Australia Pty Ltd, a Clayton, Victoria establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of May Gibbs Decorative Rubbish Bins from the Australian marketplace due to suspected component detachment and consequential risks of choking, oral injury, internal ingestion and GI tract laceration damage, all serious health and safety hazards.

Additional information:
The Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (“ACCC”) reports the following Rubbish Bins are subject to this recall:

  • May Gibbs Decorative Rubbish Bins, consisting of beige-coloured plastic rubbish bins with decorative graphic designs with MDF lids, sold with knob style handles and an article number of 92673

==> No barcodes, APNs, EANs, UPCs, DINs, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the ACCC, the knob style handle and screw of the recalled Rubbish Bins may come loose and detach from the lid. If this defect occurs and the knob and/or screw detach, they can pose choking, suffocation and/or ingestion hazards for young children.

In general, if plastic or metal fragments are ingested, they could cut the mouth, stomach or other parts of the GI tract, cause intestinal perforation or serious infection and possibly require surgical intervention for their safe removal.
