Australia FlagAustralia/Canberra: Gerns Continental Smallgoods Pty Ltd, a Geebung, Brisbane, Queensland establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of Gerns Smallgoods Thin Beef Sausages from the Australian marketplace due to suspected plastic fragment contamination and consequential risk of choking, ingestion and GI tract laceration damage, all serious safety hazards.

Additional information:
The Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (“ACCC”) reports the following Sausage products are subject to this recall:

  • Gerns Smallgoods Thin Beef Sausages, sold in 24-packs of 1.880 kilogram plastic containers with plastic film with a batch/lot code of 2307, a use-by code of 06-08-2020 and a best-before date of 04-08-2020 with an APN/EAN of 2000210609381

==> No item numbers, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the ACCC, this recall was due to the presence of plastic fragments.

In general, if plastic or metal fragments are ingested, they could cut the mouth, stomach or other parts of the GI tract, cause intestinal perforation or serious infection and possibly require surgical intervention for their safe removal.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household rubbish, making sure small children and pets can’t access the suspect food.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession the recalled Beef Sausage products, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.
