Additional information:

Among the twenty-seven (27) recalls the European Union has announced in its fifth (and final) report of July 2020, the following recall notification was made:

KY branded Portable Immersion Heaters

KY branded Portable Immersion Heaters, sold with an unknown model designation number, barcode or EAN.

These Immersion Heaters are marketed as small, hand-held coiled appliances suitable for heating water or other low-viscosity liquids in cups for subsequent use as tea, coffee, soups and/or hot chocolate. The devices are designed to clip onto or balance on the edge or lip of the cup and heat the water with the submerged silver metal colored coil.

The recalled Heaters were sold with a vibrant pink base, a white cord set, a standard two-prong EU-style plug and stored in a clear plastic carry bags with green printnig. The product was sold online, notably on Amazon.

No barcodes, UPCs, DINs, item numbers, best-before date codes, manufacturing date codes, batch/lot designations, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

The type of hazards presented in these recalled KY branded Portable Immersion Heater products include the reported finding that the internal circuits are not sufficiently isolated from the water. Further, the internal build quality was judged to be of insufficiently robust quality to meet European safety specifications in that the internal wires can transmit current to the exterior metal heating element and pose an electrocution risk. In addition, there appears to be insufficient thermal protection on the metal heating element.

As a direct consequence of these reported defects, an end user could contact the live part of the Power Adapter and suffer electrical injury and/or burns due to its high temperature of the device when being operated in a reasonable manner expected with its intended use.

Due to these defects and their associated risks, these KY branded Portable Immersion Heaters do not comply with the requirements of the applicable European standard EN 60335.

Consequently, a recall of these KY branded Portable Immersion Heaters and a withdrawal of the products from the online marketplace has been ordered.
