US NHTSA Recalls: Mercedes-Benz A220 Vehicles

Among the fifty-eight (58) recalls the NHTSA has announced this July comes news of the following:

Logo - Mercedes-Benz USA, LLCMercedes-Benz USA, LLC. (“MBUSA”), a Sandy Springs, Georgia establishment and subsidiary of Daimler AG of of Stuttgart, Germany, has recalled an estimated 3,615 model year 2019 Mercedes-Benz A220 vehicles marketed, sold and delivered in the United States.

Recall Category: Electrical System – Air Conditioner Drain may result in water in passenger cabin

NHTSA Safety Notification 20V416000 reports that the Air Conditioning Condensation Drain Hose may not be installed properly. This reported defect may allow water to enter the driver and passenger foot wells and the center tunnel area, potentially damaging certain electrical components.

According to the NHTSA, water entering electrical components, can result in malfunctions of the Supplemental Restraint System (“SRS”), failure to start, activation of the limp-home mode while driving, and an impairment of other features, increasing the risk of injury or crash, MVA or other impact event with consequential injury and/or life-changing results.

Mercedes-Benz will notify registered owners, and dealers will inspect the air conditioning drain hose installation, correcting it if necessary, free of charge. This recall is expected to begin September 15, 2020. Owners may contact MBUSA Customer Service toll-free at 1-800-367-6372 during normal business hours, Monday to Friday, Eastern Standard Time (“EST”).
