Canada/Ottawa: Loblaw Companies Limited, a Brampton, Ontario establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of President’s Choice branded Beefless Undeniable Burger veggie burger products from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected wood fragment contamination and consequential risks of choking, oral injury, internal ingestion and GI tract laceration damage, all serious health and safety hazards.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (“CFIA”) reports the following veggie burger products products are subject to this recall:

  • Loblaw’s President’s Choice branded Beefless Undeniable Burgers – Frozen, sold in 452 gram boxes with best-before date codes of 2021 JA 29 or 2021 FE 09 and a UPC of 0 60383 21511 8
  • Loblaw’s President’s Choice branded Beefless Undeniable Burgers, sold in 226 gram packages with a batch/lot code of 12520 SL/DDV6 and a UPC of 0 60383 00005 9
  • Loblaw’s President’s Choice branded Beefless Undeniable Burgers, sold in 226 gram packages with best-before date codes of 2021-01-29, 2021-02-09 or 2021-02-12 and a UPC of 0 60383 00005 9

According to the CFIA, Loblaw Companies has recalled certain batch/lots of President’s Choice branded Beefless Undeniable Burger products from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected wood fragment contamination. You should neither serve nor consume the recalled veggie burger products identified above.

In general, if plastic, wood or metal fragments are ingested, they could cut the mouth, stomach or other parts of the GI tract, cause intestinal perforation or serious infection and possibly require surgical intervention for their safe removal.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Beefless Undeniable Burgers products, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat choking, oral injury, internal ingestion and GI tract laceration.
