US NHTSA Recalls: Freightliner Cascadia Tractor Trailers

Among the thirteen (13) recalls the NHTSA announced this July comes news of the following:

Logo - Daimler Trucks North America LLCDaimler Trucks North America LLC (“DTNA”), a Portland, Oregon establishment and a subsidiary of Daimler AG of Stuttgart, Germany, has recalled an estimated 164,317 model year 2017-2021 Freightliner Cascadia Tractor Trailers marketed, sold and delivered in the United States.

Recall Category: Service Brakes, Air – Corroded Modulator Valve may cause brake pull

NHTSA Safety Notification 20V390000 reports the Single Brake Modulator Valve may be affected by chemical corrosion which can slow down the release timing and cause the brakes to pull to the affected side during automatic braking events.

According to the NHTSA, Brakes that pull to one side during automatic braking events may cause a sudden change in vehicle direction, increasing the risk of a crash, MVA or other impact event with consequential injury and/or life-changing results.

Daimler will notify registered owners, and dealers will perform repairs, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided the repair procedures. This recall is expected to begin August 30, 2020. Owners may contact Daimler Customer Service toll-free at 1-800-547-0712 during normal business hours, Monday to Friday, Eastern Standard Time (“EST”). DTNA’s designation for this recall is FL-855.
