Canada/Ottawa: Fresh Express, a Salinas, California establishment and subsidiary of Chiquita Brands International Sàrl of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, recalls certain batch/lots of various Salads from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected Cyclospora cayetanensisa contamination and consequential risks of Cyclospora infection, parasitic infiltration, severe illness and/or possible life-changing complications, all serious health hazards.

According to the CFIA, Fresh Express has recalled certain batch/lots of various Salad products from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected Cyclospora cayetanensisa contamination. You should neither serve nor consume the recalled Salads identified above.

Cyclospora infects the small intestine and usually causes watery diarrhea (sometimes, explosive diarrhea) with frequent bowel movements. Other symptoms include loss of appetite, weight loss, bloating, increased gas, stomach cramps, nausea, vomiting, tiredness, muscle aches, and low-grade fever. Serious cases of Cyclospora infection are treated with antibiotics prescribed by a licensed physician.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of these recalled Salads, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.
