US NHTSA Recalls: Gillig Rear Lower Control Rods

Among the sixty four (64) recalls the NHTSA announced this June comes news of the following:

Logo - Gillig LLCGillig LLC (“Gillig”), a Livermore, California establishment and a subsidiary of Henry Crown & Company of Wheeling, Illinois, has recalled an estimated 6,101 model year certain aftermarket Rear Suspension Lower Control Rods, part number 82-74712-000 marketed, sold and delivered in the United States.

Recall Category: Suspension – Rear Suspension Lower Control Rod Failure

NHTSA Safety Notification 20E035000 reports the Rear Suspension Lower Control Rods may experience fatigue failure due to stiffened end bushings.

According to the NHTSA, if the Rear Suspension Lower Control Rods fail, the vehicle’s bus may have reduced handling and stability, increasing the risk of a crash, MVA or other impact event with consequential injury and/or life-changing results.

Gillig will notify registered purchasers of the aftermarket part, and provide owners with new Lower Control Rods with different bushings, free of charge. This recall is expected to begin July 1, 2020. Owners may contact Gillig Customer Service toll-free at 1-800-735-1500 during normal business hours, Monday to Friday, Eastern Standard Time (“EST”). No manufacturer’s designation was listed for this recall at press time.
