Glitzies branded Plush Toy Dogs with Sequins, sold with a model number of 453190 and a barcode/EAN/UPC number of 5050565423320.

The Plush Toy Dog products are marketed as small brown plush animal toys for children in the shape of a Dachshund Dog approximately 28 cm (~11 inches) in length. There are various styles/animals involved in the recall but all are notable for their sequin “coats” that cover most of their body and reflect light at different angles.

No type/model designations, batch/lot designations, best-before date codes, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other codes were listed with this recall.

The type of hazards presented in these recalled Glitzies branded Plush Toy Dog products include the reported finding that the sequins inherent to the design of these Plush Toys can easily be detached.

Specifically, the recall notification reports that a small child could put the Toy in his or her mouth, detach the sequins through biting, tearing and/or sucking. If this defect occurs and the child inhales and/or swallows the sequins, the objects could damage the mouth or throat or cause serious and potentially life-threatening injuries:

    • If swallowed in sufficient quantities, the sharp edges of the sequins could cause internal lacerations and/or intestinal damage and/or bowel blockage in the child and require emergency surgical intervention.
    • If inhaled in sufficient quantities, the sequins could cause lung damage, infection and/or choking, all emergency conditions, possibly requiring medical and/or surgical intervention.

Due to these defects and their associated risks, these Glitzies branded Plush Toy Dog products do not comply with the requirements of the applicable European Toy Safety Directive and the relevant European Standard EN 71-1.

Consequently, a recall of these Glitzies branded Plush Toy Dog products and a withdrawal of the products from the European marketplace has been ordered.
