Australia FlagAustralia/Canberra: Apollo Bay Distillery Pty Ltd, an Apollo Bay, Victoria establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of SS Casino Dry Gin from the Australian marketplace due to suspected mislabeling/mispackaging and consequential risk of poisoning, ingestion, chemical burns, GI tract laceration damage and death, all serious health and safety hazards.

Additional information:
The Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (“ACCC”) reports the following Gin Alcohol beverages are subject to this recall:

  • SS Casino Dry Gin, sold in 700 mL clear glass bottles with a batch/lot designation of “1”

==> No barcodes, APNs, UPCs, DINs, item numbers, best-before date codes, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the ACCC, the Gin Alcohol beverages are labelled as “Gin”, however the contents are not Gin. Rather, the bottles contains Hand Sanitiser, a substance that may sicken, injure or kill if consumed.

The recall is due to non-compliant labelling (NIP not listed on the label) – 80% ABV Ethanol and Glycerol and Hydrogen Peroxide are added. The product is labelled as Gin Alcohol, however it is not Gin, the bottle contains Hand Sanitiser. You should neither serve nor consume the recalled Gin Alcohol beverages identified above.

The bottles of Gin reportedly contain Hand Sanitiser including 1.45% Glycerol and 0.125% Hydrogen Peroxide. Foods or beverages containing Glycerol and Hydrogen Peroxide may cause serious illness and/or injury if consumed.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food or beverage, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household rubbish, making sure small children and pets can’t access the suspect food.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession the recalled Gin Alcohol beverages, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 0-0-0, your closest hospital or emergency centre equipped to properly treat poisoning and/or internal chemical burns.
