According to the HCSC, the recalled products do not meet the labelling and child-resistant packaging requirements for corrosive chemicals required by Canada’s Consumer Chemicals and Containers Regulations, 2001 under the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act.

These types of chemical products are capable of burning eyes or skin. The lack of child-resistant packaging could result in unintentional exposure to these products and lead to serious illness or injury including death.

The recalled Chemical products contain Sodium Hydroxide or Potassium Hydroxide, two substances that must be stored in child resistant packaging as required by Canadian legislation.

In this case, however, the packaging of the products is not child resistant, posing a risk of poisoning, chemical burns and irritation to the skin and eyes. In addition, the label on the product omits the word “poison” as required for poisonous chemicals and a mandatory hazard statement on the front on the packaging to warn users to exercise extreme care when handling and/or using these products.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Sodium Hydroxide and Potassium Hydroxide Chemicals, please do not use them. Instead, kindly store the recalled products in a safe location out of reach of children and contact Belle Chemical for free replacement child-resistant packaging and revised labelling to affix to the product.

Disposal of this product must be in accordance with local municipal hazardous waste requirements to protect the drinking water supply and the ecosystem. Please contact your local municipal hazardous authority in the Blue Pages of your telephone directory for details.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat poisonings, corrosive skin injuries, eye damage, and/or burns.
