Among the thirty one (31) recalls the European Union has announced in its first report of June 2020, the following recall notification was made:

Lage & Roy branded Sonnenlob Lotion, sold in 200 mL white tubes with an unlisted barcode/EAN/UPC number.

The products are marketed as cosmetic sun screen lotions. The recalled Lage & Roy branded Sonnenlob Lotion products are specifically designed to block UV rays from damaging the skin.

No type/model designations, batch/lot designations, best-before date codes, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other codes were listed with this recall.

The type of hazards presented in these recalled Lage & Roy branded Sonnenlob Lotions include the reported finding that these cosmetic products lack UV filter elements and its actual protection factor is lower than indicated.

Specifically, the recall notification reports that the Sonnenlob Lotions have an sun protection factor (“SPF”) of just 0.8, an amount unlike to provide sufficient protection from the sun’s ultraviolet (“UV”) rays when using the lotion in a reasonable manner expected with its intended use.

By providing less UV protection than specified, the Sonnenlob Lotion could indirectly cause skin damage and tissue Carcinoma (“Cancer”) could indirectly cause skin damage and tissue Carcinoma (Cancer”) by encouraging a wearer to stay in the Sun longer than might be safe.

Due to these defects and their associated risks, these Lage & Roy branded Sonnenlob Lotions do not comply with the requirements of the applicable European Safety Directives and Europe’s relevant Cosmetic Products Regulation.

Consequently, a recall of these Lage & Roy branded Sonnenlob Lotions and a withdrawal of the product from the European marketplace and recall from end users has been ordered.
