Canada/Ottawa: Health Canada, an Ottawa, Ontario regulatory and safety safety authority, warns Canadians about purchasing and/or using any of the estimated 100,000 pails of Triton Hand Sanitizer made with technical-grade Ethanol that were marketed, sold and distributed to the Canadian marketplace without the necessary hazardous risk information and required labelling due to risk of adverse skin reactions, particularly for children, pregnant or breastfeeding women, and those with previous lacerations or other skin injuries, all serious health and safety hazards.

Please consult the photograph above for details of the product’s design and retail presentation.

==> No barcodes, DINs, UPCs, item numbers, best-before dates, regulatory approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to Health Canada, Fluid Energy Group Ltd. has distributed an estimated 100,000 – 20-litre pails of Triton Hand Sanitizer products without the required risk information on the label. These Hand Sanitizer products contains technical-grade Ethanol which Health Canada recently authorized on a temporary basis for use in Hand Sanitizers in Canada to help address the increased demand in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The company estimates that approximately 100,000 – 20-litre pails of the mislabeled product were distributed across Canada, with the majority sold at Canadian Tire stores. Other outlets that have sold this product include Vallen Canada and Eecol Electric Corporation, both of which are industrial supply concerns.

Fluid Energy Group Ltd. has contacted all of its known customers to request they stop selling the mislabelled products and is working to correct the labelling issue for any remaining product in stock. The company has also updated risk information posted on its Web site, available here: http://tritoncleaningproducts.com/pages/index.html.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Triton Hand Sanitizer, please understand that Health Canada has recently conducted an assessment of the risks and benefits of using specific sources of technical-grade Ethanol in hand sanitizers. The Department determined that, when used as directed and for a limited period, the public health benefits of using Hand Sanitizers containing approved sources of technical-grade Ethanol to limit the spread of COVID-19 outweigh the risks.
