Home COVID-19 Test Kit Warning [Canada]

Canada/Ottawa: Health Canada, an Ottawa, Ontario regulatory and safety safety authority, warns that unauthorized Home COVID-19 Test Kits are unsafe and should not be relied on due to inaccurate and/or false negative results with consequential risks of viral infection, severe illness and/or possible life-changing complications, all serious health hazards.

Health Canada/Santé Canada (“HCSC”) reports if you have purchased an unauthorized Test Kit that claims to detect or/and diagnose COVID‑19, do not use it or rely on its results. Consult your local health authority for recommendations on testing and testing services for COVID-19.

According to Health Canada, Canadians should not to buy home diagnostic Test Kits, including mail-in sample collection kits, that claim to diagnose or detect COVID-19 because they may provide inaccurate and/or false results. Home COVID-19 Test Kits have not been authorized by Health Canada, which means they have not been reviewed for safety, quality or effectiveness.

Health Canada has authorized COVID-19 Test Kits intended for use only by healthcare professionals or trained operators. Clinicians can visit this site for details: https://www.canada.ca/en/health-canada/services/drugs-health-products/medical-devices/covid-19/diagnostic-devices-authorized.html.

Health Canada is also working with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police to take action when unauthorized Test Kits are found to be sold in Canada.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Test Kits, please do not use them. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

Please note: the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act prohibits recalled products from being redistributed, sold or even given away in Canada.
