US FlagUS/Silver Spring: United Natural Foods, Inc. (“UNFI”), a Providence, Rhode Island establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of Wild Harvest branded Organic Basil products from the American marketplace due to suspected Cyclospora cayetanensis contamination and consequential risk of Cyclosporiasis, a parasitic intestinal illness with accompanying GI tract infection and laceration damage, all serious health hazards.

Additional information:
The US Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) reports the following Organic Basil products are subject to this recall:

  • Wild Harvest branded Organic Basil, sold in 0.25 ounce, 0.75 ounce, 2 ounce and 4 ounce plastic clam shell containers with UPCs of 0071153550450, 0071153550322, 0071153550762 and 0071153550323 respectively. The recalled batch/lots are marked with a white sticker with black ink on the back of the container with the text, “Product of Colombia” and “112”.

Please consult the photograph above for details of the food’s packaging, design and retail presentation. One (1) additional image of the recalled Wild Harvest branded Organic Basil products can be found on the Web site above.

According to the FDA, Cyclospora cayetanensis is a microscopic parasite that can cause an intestinal illness in people called Cyclosporiasis. You should neither serve nor consume the recalled Wild Harvest branded Organic Basil products identified above. This Basil products were known to have been distributed and sold in the state of Minnesota to grocery stores.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Wild Harvest branded Organic Basil products, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the Basil products to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat parasitic poisonings such as Cyclosporiasis.
