US FlagUS/Washington: Prepac Manufacturing Ltd., a Delta, British Columbia establishment, recalls an estimated 21,000 Prepac 4-Drawer Chests from the American marketplace due to suspected Tip-Over and Entrapment and consequential risks of bone fracture, crush, suffocation and laceration injury, all serious safety hazards.

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (“CPSC”) reports this recall includes Prepac 4-Drawer Chests with plastic drawer glides.

  • Prepac 4-Drawer Chests, sold in Black with a model number of BEP-3031-4 and sized at 29-3/4″ high by 30″ wide by 16″ depth
  • Prepac 4-Drawer Chests, sold in Black with a model number of BBD-3031-4 and sized at 29-3/4″ high by 30″ wide by 16″ depth
  • Prepac 4-Drawer Chests, sold in Oak with a model number of OBD-3031-4 and sized at 29-3/4″ high by 30″ wide by 16″ depth
  • Prepac 4-Drawer Chests, sold in WHD-3031-4 with a model number of WHD-3031-4 and sized at 29-3/4″ high by 30″ wide by 16″ depth

According to the CPSC, the recalled Prepac 4-Drawer Chests are unstable if not securely anchored to the wall, posing tip-over and entrapment hazards that may result in death or serious injuries to children. As sold and distributed in the United States, these Dressers do not comply with the performance requirements of the US voluntary industry standard, ASTM 2057-17.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Prepac 4-Drawer Chests, please stop using any Drawer Chests that are not properly anchored to the wall and place them in an area that children cannot access. Contact Prepac for a free in-home repair to the Drawer’s legs or a free one-time in-home installation of a tip-over restraint kit by a technician. Please note that this in-home remedy may be delayed due to local COVID-19 restrictions and social distancing regulations in place.
