Essential Baking Columbia Sliced Bread Recall [US]

US FlagUS/Silver Spring: The Essential Baking Company, a Seattle, Washington establishment, recalls an estimated 84 loaves of Columbia branded Sliced Bread from the American marketplace due to suspected mispackaging and consequential undeclared Egg, a known allergen, source of dietary intolerance and possible triggers of Anaphylaxis, a serious and potential fatal situation, requiring immediate medical intervention.

Additional information:
The US Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) reports the following Bread products are subject to this recall:

  • Columbia Sliced Bread, sold in clear plastic bags with a best-before date code of May 6.20, found printed on the Kwik-Lok seal at the end of the bag

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the FDA, The Essential Baking Company has recalled 84 loaves of Columbia branded Sliced Bread, sold in 32-ounce loaves with an expiration date of May 6.20, a product manufactured without the ingredient Egg. The actual product packed into the bags, however, may in fact be the company’s 16-ounce Challah Bread, a product that is manufactured with Egg.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of these recalled Columbia branded Sliced Bread and could be allergic to their Egg ingredients, have a close family member who is allergic or has previously experienced Anaphylaxis or are unsure of your allergy status, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat Anaphylaxis.
