Solid Ink branded Tattoo Ink – Salmon color, sold with a batch/lot code of 04.27.18, an expiry date code of 04.2022 and an unlisted barcode/EAN/UPC. The product is a professional tattoo ink to be inserted into the skin for artistic and/or body art purposes by trained tattoo artists. The Solid Ink branded Tattoo Ink products are sold in a wide range of colors by wholesalers.

No best-before date codes, manufacturing date codes, production dates, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other codes were listed with this recall.

The type of hazards presented in these recalled Solid Ink branded Tattoo Ink products include the reported finding that the Salmon colored Tattoo Ink product contains Nickel, a chemical element with the symbol Ni and atomic number 28. Nickel is a silvery-white lustrous metal with a slight golden tinge. The measured value of Nickel in the recalled Tattoo Ink was 0.8 parts per million, a value in excess of European standards for this element when using the Ink in a reasonable manner expected with its intended use.

Specifically, Nickel can cause skin irritation, induce sensitization or elicit allergic responses. Someone with a Tattoo made with the recalled Tattoo Ink could develop serious subcutaneous skin reactions and possible Anaphylaxis, a serious and potential fatal situation, requiring immediate medical intervention.

Consequently, the Council of Europe Resolution ResAP (2008)1 on requirements and criteria for the safety of Tattoos and Permanent Makeup recommends that the levels of Nickel are as low as technically achievable to reduce these hazards.

Due to these defects and their associated risks, these Solid Ink branded Tattoo Ink products do not comply with the requirements of set out in Europe’s health and safety regulations and have been ordered withdrawn from the European marketplace.
