US FlagUS/Washington: Modular Robotics Inc., a Boulder, Colorado establishment and Dexter Industries, a Restin, West Virginia establishment, recalls an estimated 2,400 Dexter Industries branded Rechargeable Battery Packs from the American marketplace due to suspected electrical short circuit and overheating with consequential risks of fire, burns and/or smoke inhalation, all serious health hazards.

Additional information:
The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (“CPSC”) reports the recalled Battery Packs were sold individually, and also within Classroom Kits and GoPiGo and BrickPi robotic bundles.

  • Each of the Rechargeable Battery Packs is a 9.6V 2000Ah NiMH battery with a maximum charge current of two (2) Amperes and is wrapped in black plastic. The phrase, “Dexter Industries Rechargeable Battery Pack” can be found printed on a white label on the Battery Pack.

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the CPSC, this recall was initiated due to suspected electrical short circuiting and overheating. Specifically, the Rechargeable Battery Packs can short circuit, causing them to overheat, posing a burn hazard to consumers.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Rechargeable Battery Packs, please do not use them. Instead, contact Modular Robotics for a free replacement Battery Pack. Safely dispose of the defective product by following local laws for disposal of the batteries.
