US NHTSA Recalls: GM Rugger Tonneau Cover Accessories

Among the fifty three (53) recalls the NHTSA announced this April comes news of the following:

Logo - General Motors LLCGeneral Motors LLC (“GM”), a Detroit, Michigan, establishment, has recalled an estimated 12,956 model year Rugger Liner Hard, Tri-Fold Tonneau Covers sold as accessories for 2019-2020 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra 1500 series Trucks marketed, sold and delivered in the United States.

Recall Category: Equipment – Tonneau Cover may detach from Pickup Bed

NHTSA Safety Notification 20E024000 reports the attachment system may not properly secure the Tonneau Cover to the Pickup Bed of the Chevrolet Silverado or GMC Sierra vehicles.

Logo - ChevroletAccording to the NHTSA, if the Cover separates from the truck bed, it could become a road hazard, especially if traveling on the highway. If this defect occurs, it increases the risks of a vehicle crash and consequential serious injuries.

Logo - GMCGM will notify registered owners, and dealers will replace the Tonneau Rails and install improved Fastening Attachments, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin June 1, 2020. Owners may contact GM Customer Service toll-free at 1-586-596-1733 during normal business hours, Monday to Friday, Eastern Standard Time (“EST”). GM’s designation for this recall is N192285070. Please note: All Tonneau Covers previously recalled under recall notification 19E031 are also included in this new recall.
