US NHTSA Recalls: Navistar IC CE School Buses

Among the fifty one (51) recalls the NHTSA announced this April comes news of the following:

Logo - Navistar International CorporationNavistar International Corporation (formerly International Harvester Company) (“Navistar”), an Lisle, Illinois establishment, has recalled an estimated 23,299 model year 2017-2021 IC CE School Buses equipped with Cummins B6.7 Diesel Engines with fuel module option number FS90301 or FS90453 marketed, sold and delivered in the United States.

Recall Category: Fuel System, Diesel – Fuel Heater May Overheat and Cause Fire

Logo - CumminsNHTSA Safety Notification 20V220000 reports the Electric Fuel Heater in the recalled vehicles within the fuel module may overheat and cause plastic in the fuel heater to melt and potentially catch fire. This defect may also lead to engine stalling.

According to the NHTSA, a fire increases the risk of burns and smoke inhalation while an engine stall can increase the risk of a crash and serious injury.

The remedy for this recall is still under development. Cummins will notify the affected Navistar vehicle owners. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact Cummins Customer Service toll-free at 1-800-286-6467 during normal business hours, Monday to Friday, Eastern Standard Time (“EST”). No manufacturer’s designation was listed for this recall at press time.
