US FlagUS/Silver Spring: Homestead Creamery Inc., a Wirtz, Virginia establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of Homestead Creamery branded Unsalted Butter products from the American marketplace due to suspected risk of Listeria monocytogenes contamination and consequential risk of Gram-positive bacterial infection, severe illness and/or possible life-changing complications, all serious health hazards.

Additional information:
The US Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) reports the following Butter products are subject to this recall:

  • Homestead Creamery branded Unsalted Butter, sold in 1/2 pound (227 gram) packages with an expiration date of 04/30

Please consult the photograph above for details of the food’s packaging, design and retail presentation.

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the FDA, this recall was initiated after routine testing by Homestead Creamery revealed the presence of Listeria monocytogenes in its Unsalted Butter products. The production of the Butter product, therefore, has been suspended while the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services continues to investigate the source of the issue. You should neither serve nor consume the recalled Unsalted Butter products identified above.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Homestead Creamery branded Unsalted Butter products, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the Butter to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat bacterial poisoning such as Listeriosis.
