US FlagUS/Washington: Southern Motion, a Pontotoc, Mississippi establishment, recalls an estimated 2,300 Wireless Power Reclining Furniture products including Chairs, Sofas and Ottomans from the American marketplace due to suspected battery overheating and consequential risks of fire, burns, smoke inhalation and property damage, all serious safety hazards.

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (“CPSC”) reports this recall involves Wireless Power Reclining Chairs and Sofas powered by lithium-ion batteries, as follows:

  • The batteries that are reportedly subject to overheating are installed internally as an optional equipment upgrade in custom configurable reclining Chairs and Sofas and are visible when looking under the upholstery in the rear of the Furniture in a black mounting bracket. The affected batteries are black and rectangular and are marked with the word “ENouvation” on a white label on the reverse side.

The side of the batteries have blinking lights indicating the charge level of the battery. The recalled pieces of Furniture have a white label on the back underside of the Footrest Ottoman that states “Options: WP” indicating “Wireless Power”, along with the product’s unique serial, style, and cover fabric numbers and the custom production date.

According to the CPSC, the lithium-ion batteries used to power the “Wireless Power” reclining furniture can overheat, posing a fire hazard

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Furniture, please do not use them. Instead, kindly remove the subject batteries if you are able to do so and set them aside for safe storage then contact Southern Motion for a free in-home repair, including a credit for the cost of the Wireless Power lithium-ion battery option.
