Among the ninety two (92) recalls the NHTSA announced this March comes news of the following:

Logo - Harbor Freight ToolsHarbor Freight Tools (“Harbor Freight”), a Calabasas, California establishment, has recalled an estimated 454,000 model year Pittsburgh Automotive branded Six (6) Ton Heavy Duty Steel Jack Stands, sold with a part number of 61197 marketed, sold and delivered in the United States.

Recall Category: Equipment – Jack Stands May Fail

NHTSA Safety Notification 20V162000 reports that the ratchet teeth on the recalled Jack Stands may not sufficiently engage the pawl to a sufficient depth, possibly causing the stand to fail under load.

According to the NHTSA, if the Jack Stands fail, they can suddenly drop, increasing the risk of serious injury or death to persons directly underneath or nearby to the suspended vehicle.

Harbor Freight will notify registered owners, and stores will provide, in exchange for return of the recalled Jack Stands, a gift card equal to the shelf price of the Jack Stands, free of charge. Owners are asked to immediately discontinue use of the Jack Stands for safety concerns.

The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact Harbor Freight Customer Service toll-free at 1-800-444-3353 during normal business hours, Monday to Friday, Pacific Standard Time (“PST”) or by e-mail at Recalls@HarborFreight.com. No manufacturer’s designation was listed for this recall at press time.
