US NHTSA Recalls: Toyota Highlander Vehicles

Among the eighty seven (87) recalls the NHTSA announced this March comes news of the following:

Toyota Motor Engineering & ManufacturingToyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (“Toyota”), a Plano Texas establishment and subsidiary of Toyota Motor Corporation, a Toyota City, Japan establishment, has recalled an estimated 38,810 model year 2020 Highlander vehicles equipped with a 3.5 L, V6 (2GR-FKS) gasoline engine marketed, sold and delivered in the United States.

Recall Category: Fuel System, Gasoline, Engine – ECU Error May Cause Vehicle Stall

NHTSA Safety Notification 20V162000 reports that due to an Engine Control Unit (“ECU”) programming error in the recalled vehicles, fuel may not be correctly supplied to the engine while using the stop and restart feature..

According to the NHTSA, improper fuel supply programming can result in a vehicle stall, increasing the risk of a crash.

Toyota will notify registered owners, and dealers will reprogram the ECU, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin April 24, 2020. Owners may contact Toyota Customer Service toll-free at 1-888-270-9371 during normal business hours, Monday to Friday, Central Standard Time (“CST”). Toyota’s designation for this recall is 20TA06.
