US NHTSA Recalls: Micro Bird T, G5 & MBII School Buses

Among the seventy six (76) recalls the NHTSA announced this March comes news of the following:

Logo - Blue BirdCorp. Micro Bird Inc. (“Micro Bird”), a Fort Valley, Georgia establishment and a subsidiary of Blue Bird, has recalled an estimated 17,693 model year 2004-2021 T-Series, G5, and MBII School Buses marketed, sold and delivered in the United States.

Recall Category: Structure – Emergency Door May Not Stay Open/FMVSS 217

NHTSA Safety Notification 20V133000 reports that the emergency door retaining device may fail to keep the door in an open position. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (“FMVSS”) number 217, “Bus Emergency Exits and Window Retention and Release.”

According to the NHTSA, if the emergency door won’t stay open during an evacuation it can increase the risk of injury.

Micro Bird will notify registered owners, and dealers will install a kit to repair the emergency door retaining device, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin April 17, 2020. Owners may contact Micro Bird Customer Service toll-free at 1-819-477-2012 during normal business hours, Monday to Friday, Eastern Standard Time (“EST”). Micro Bird’s designation for this recall is 20-084-RUS.
