(“AFC”), a Rancho Dominguez, California establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of Cooked Butterfly Tail-On Whiteleg Shrimp (“Sushi Ebi”) from the American marketplace due to suspected Vibrio Parahaemolyticus contamination and consequential risk of Gram-negative bacterial infection, severe illness and/or possible life-changing complications, all serious health hazards.

Additional information:
The US Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) reports the following Shellfish products are subject to this recall:

  • AFC Distribution Corp. branded Cooked Butterfly Tail-On Whiteleg Shrimp (“Sushi Ebi”), sold with a batch/lot designation of 2019.10.02 and used in various prepared menu offerings with sell-by dates ranging from 02/19/2020 to 03/13/2020

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the FDA, the recalled ingredient, Cooked Butterfly Tail-On Whiteleg Shrimp, was distributed to designated retail AFC Sushi Counters, where it is further processed into prepared Sushi items, within grocery stores, cafeterias, and corporate dining centers in the following states: AK, AL, AR, AZ, CA, CO, CT, FL, GA, IA, AD, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MA, MD, MI, MN, MO, MT, NC, ND, NE, NH, NM, NY, OH, OR, PA, SC, SD, TN, TX, UT, VA, WA, WV and WY. You should neither serve nor consume the recalled Sushi Ebi products identified above.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Sushi Ebi, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the Shrimp to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat bacterial poisonings such as Vibrio Parahaemolyticus contamination.
